In Dusseldorf

I know I just wrote to you that I had my first day in Brussels... well now I'm back in Germany, in Dusseldorf. I am visiting a friend from UW. I am ready for some rest after almost 11 hours of traveling (with a couple hours of sightseeing in there: including walking on the Rhine, exploring Brussel's Grand Place, and eating Belgian chocolates sitting on the front of the city hall). Yesterday, I stayed at a bar for several hours, listening to a jazz pianist and then playing the piano with an Englishman and a Frenchman. I got drinks on the house! Afterwards, there was a delicious Moroccan place just two doors down that happened to be open until 12am. I can still imagine the butter seeping out of the baked potato now...

Today, I explored Brussels in the morning, which was when I was in the Grand Place (the central square of the city and eating chocolates there. I also saw the statue called "Manneken Pis" of a boy peeing, which makes the fountain. But my personal favorite was a nice wolf fountain where I could refill my water bottle. Thanks wolf friend!

Then, my bus was delayed by almost two hours (thanks, Flixbus), but I got to know a very nice Peruvian dance producer, teacher, and ballerina named Maria Christina during the delay and afterwards (thanks, Flixbus). We got to explore Dusseldorf for about an hour before she had to go back to catch her bus to Berlin. It is really outstanding what can happen when art from across the world connects, and it was nice to talk with her about her work but also to just chat. And now, I am here in a very peaceful home in Dusseldorf, where I will make up for my six hours of sleep yesterday... *eyes slump* So we'll see what tomorrow brings! It's always new. Night!

No pictures for now (I have bad signal in this room, where I have light)

That is so cool that you got "drinks on the house". What did you end up playing on the piano? What drink did you get?

I played My Favorite Things, another jazz standard and a completely improvised tune (with another pianist), Blue Skies, and Mama Says. I just had a couple of beers, Renee Blonde.
