Hallo! To catch up a bit, Saturday we went to the Wien Museum and learned about pop music and general history (with an art focus) in Vienna. The pop music exhibit had many screens and headphones to watch/listen to examples of what they discussed, and it was interesting to hear. Then, we went to eat some quick tapas before Die Zauberfloete (The Magic Flute) at the Volksoper (People's Opera). The tapas were very good, and we had Birnensaft gespritzt (sparkling pear juice) to drink. It was fantastic to see opera for the first time, and seeing the Papageno songs were the most special for me since I had sung several of them for Solo & Ensemble in high school. All the songs I knew were in the second act, so it kept me waiting until the third to last song to hear all of the ones I knew. Afterwards, we got a quick pizza that was also delicious. Arts bring about quality food establishments. :)
The next morning, we were out of the apartment and on the train to Bamberg. We talked with some Ph.D's in Islamic Studies on the way to a conference before dropping off our bags at 3pm in Bamberg. We went to the Cathedral (Dom) first, and then we walked down to the water to dinner. On the way while it was still light, I showed Elizabeth the park I went to my second night away from Berlin and the place where I heard the philharmonic (no one playing this time). Then, we went to my favorite restaurant in Bamberg: the one I happened to go the first night I was there. I had to get the chicken dish (they still had it, because it was there summer special) and Elizabeth tried the steak with sweet potato fries. We washed it down with homemade blackberry lemonade. It was all delicious, and then we went back home to announce the Hanner & Repp's fall production.
Today, we walked up to St. Michael's to get a view of Bamberg (and a lovely walk through the gardens). I made sure to take us over the high bridge on the way back to the train station, because that one goes through one of the old main gates to the city where the town hall stands today (in the middle of the river). We got on the train and after one transfer we arrived in Ludwigsburg. We had enough time to stop by a bookstore before meeting Aleks, Philli, and Lotti at the train station. We drove home together and had a relaxing evening catching up over juice and dinner. As soon as we walked in the door, Lotti asked if I would play the piano. I was happy to play, and she played something afterwards too. It was great to see her play (and Philli played a bit too)! Nico stopped by to stay hello, but we will catch up over breakfast tomorrow morning. Gute nacht!
